If you’re a student at Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), you might have heard the term UFM. It can be stressful and confusing—especially when it affects your results or academic career. In this blog, we'll explain:
- What is UFM?
- Types of UFM cases in AKTU
- What happens if you're caught in UFM?
- How to remove a UFM
- How to write an appeal if you believe you're innocent
What is UFM in AKTU?
UFM stands for Unfair Means. It refers to any type of cheating or suspicious activity during exams. If AKTU suspects that a student has used unfair methods in an exam, a UFM case is registered.

As per AKTU guidelines and student experiences, UFM cases are generally categorized into three levels:

1. Minor UFM (Single Subject Level)
- Affects only one subject
- Student may be marked zero in that particular subject
- The rest of the result is shown normally
2. Major UFM (One Semester Cancelled)
- Entire semester is cancelled
- No marks are shown for any subject of that semester
- Student has to reappear in all subjects in the next session
3. Severe UFM (Multiple Semesters Cancelled)
- One or more semesters are cancelled
- This happens in serious cases or repeated cheating
- Student may be barred from exams for a certain period
What Happens If You Get UFM?

- Your result is withheld for that subject or semester
- On the result portal, it might show “UFM” or "Result Withheld"
- A student is notified by the university and is required to appear before the UFM committee
What Does the UFM Committee Do?

- They review video footage from the exam hall
- Examine any evidence like chits, mobiles, books, or gestures
- The student may be called for a hearing
- The committee then decides the level of punishment based on severity
How to Remove UFM from Your Record?

If you are innocent, you have the right to appeal.
